The Liberal Opposition today accused Health Minister John Hill of ignoring the urgent need for information technology upgrade of our public health system for the past 18 months putting patient lives at risk. “While Health minister John Hill plays with his I-Pad he should download the report from the Chief Information Officer given to senior health bureaucrats some EIGHTEEN MONTHS ago warning of the need to spend a BILLION DOLLARS on upgrades for ICT in our Hospitals,” said Dr McFetridge, Shadow Minister for Health.
“As Minister Hill Google’s and scrolls on his new toy the IT servers in the basement of the Royal Adelaide Hospital and other hospitals are overloading and it is only a matter of time before they collapse putting patient records at risk and so patients lives at risk. “The Chief Information Officer told senior health bureaucrats there is an urgent need to upgrade the ICT hardware. “A budget of $100 million a year for the next ten years was the cost put to those at the meeting attended by the Chief Information Officer and senior health bureaucrats. “It look as if the Minister is playing games not reading reports. Perhaps he should open his ears and eyes not another application on his I-pad,” said Dr McFetridge
